Show and more about their earth and its relationship to its solar system. The culmination of the unit was a trip to visit the observatory at the Erig-ham Young University. Dr. Eastmond who is in charge of the observatory, showed the children child-ren interesting things about how to handle a 16 inch telescope. Each child had a chance to look through the telescope. During the past week, three new students have entered the class. They are adjusting very well and are participating- in all activities. Right now the class is studying about freight trains. A trip to the depot is being planned so the class can see how freight is dispatched. The children are learning many spring songs and songs of Ireland. They enjoy their recreation period at which time they are learning a rhythm exercise about "The lit tle Caboose." Wednesday the boys and girls of Central School were entertained entertain-ed by "The Chimers," a group of accomplished musicians from Salt Lake City. The program was en-- -joyed very much. The sixth grade is studying a unit on light. Many interesting-experiments interesting-experiments have been performed by the students in connection with this unit. Boys and girls of the sixth grade are very much enthused over letters let-ters they have received from their "pen pals." Letters have been received re-ceived from Hawaii, Italy, Germany, Ger-many, Netherlands, Mexico and Egypt. Tuesday, students of Central school were nursing sore arms as a result of Typhoid, Diptheria and Smallpox innoculations and vaccinations. CENTRAL SCHOOL NEWS On Thursday morning March 5, the Sixth Grade left by school bus for a sightseeing trip to Salt Lake City, where they visited the State Capitol, the State Legislature, and the House of Representatives and Senate chambers. They visited the museum at the Capitol and had a big thrill riding the elevators. They ate their lunches lun-ches in the buses, and then visited the temple grounds and the museum mus-eum and later attended Uncle Roscoe's show. The girls and boys were taken through the kitchen and laundry, room at Hotel Utah, and the popular roof gardens. - . They also visited the LDS church offices, the president's room, and other very- interesting parts. . The guide, Mr. Robinson, steered the group around and told them about each room and how it was built. At the Deseret News Press, the youngsters were very interested in seeing how a newspaper is printed. Before returning the group visited vis-ited the Wonder Bread Bakery, where tney were courteously received re-ceived and were given pamphlets and cookies. The Third Grade has recently completed a unit of work on the solar system. The children saw two films which explained many interesting in-teresting things about stars, the planets and thesun. The children were told legends of the star constellations, con-stellations, and about the huge telescopes which show scientists the mysteries of the universe. The children made a scrapbook in which was put all the stories and pictures they made. Interest ran high as the children learned more |
