Show Thome's Celebrate 57fh Anniversary David Benjamin Thorne and Mary Eva Keetch Thome, popular Lindon couple, celebrated their 57th wedding' anniversary on Mar. 7, at their home with a family g'et-to-gether. They were married on March 6, 1896 and have spent the najority of their lives in Lindon. They have contributed much to :he development of Lindon from a small farming community into i rapidly expanding third-class jity. Mr. and Mrs. Thorne have spent their 57 married years establishing' es-tablishing' a home and raising a family. Six of their eight children are still living, twins died in infancy. in-fancy. Four of the six children completed missions for the LDS Church. The living sons and daughters are, Clinton R. Thome, and Milton A. Thorne of Richfield; Fern Biglow of Springville; Jesse K. Thorne of Pleasant Grove; Louise Lou-ise Gillman and Mae Jacklin of Lindon. Mr. Thorne was bora March 18, 1876 in Pleasant Grove and spent his childhood in this community. During his early married years he was called on a mission to the Southern States. In the intervening period he has held many positions in the church and for the public. He served as president of the MIA and' was senior president of the Quorum of Seventies, second counselor coun-selor of the high priests quorum, a member of the high council.1 He also held the position of ward and tithing clerk for 27 years and another an-other six : years were' spent ' as bishop of the Lindon ward. In 1937 he was sustained patriarch of the Timpanogos Stake and is at- present pres-ent active in this capacity.' His community work Includes being secretary of the North- Union Un-ion Irrigation Company since 1905. Thus he has spent 48 years as secretary as well as 21 years as board member. When the' town of Lindon was incorporated he was selected as one of the board members. mem-bers. He occupied this position ,for three terms. He was among the leaders responsible for the installation installa-tion of the water system . in the town of Lindon. He has served as president of the Federal Land Bank Board of Pleasant Grove, president of the Orem-Lindon Dairy Association and was one of the organizers of the Salt Xiake Federated Milk Board. Few men in the community have given more freely of their time and ability and his greatest joy has come from his unlimited service serv-ice to his fellowmen. He still gives generously of his time and means to the church and community. Mary Eva Keetch Thorne was born November 20, 1876 in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, now known as Lindon. She has resided all of her life within a block of where she was born, except for 3 years. , The couple have 27 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Thome has devoted many years to being a successful wife, home-maker home-maker and mother. She always keeps her home open to the young people of Lindon. While David was in the mission field she did odd jobs to take care of her two small sons and herself. In addition to raising her family she has served as secretary and treasurer of the Relief Society from 1915 to 1919. She then became president until 1932. During these 12 years she missed only three meetings. She is still a visiting teacher and for almost 22 years her district has been visited 100 per cent. |
