Show Local students win in art competition Rachel Norman, a senior at American Fork High School, took "Best of Show" in the annual Utah Pageant of the Arts sponsored Youth Art competition. She will receive a $100 savings bond. Other local winners included Peggy Wheeler, a seventh grade student at Pleasant Grove Junior High School, and Melissa Peck, a fifth grade student at Sego Lily Elementary School in Lehi, both of whom won Sweepstakes awards . Mike Spears, a tenth grade : student at American Fork High School, was one of seven Award of' Merit winners. Geri Draper, competition chairman, said over 1,000 entries were received in the competition from students from schools from as far away as St. George and Brigham City. This year, for the first time, in addition to the "Best of Show" award, four "Judges Awards" were given, said Marcia Peterson, Youth Art Director. These went to students in three divisions kindergarten through sixth grade; seventh through ninth grade; and tenth through twelfth grade. Each of the winners of the Judges Award will receive a $75 savings bond. There was also a sweepstakes award given in each grade, kindergarten kin-dergarten through 12. Winners of these awards will receive a $50 savings bond. Winners are to be notified by mail or telephone, with awards given at the Pageant Guilt night on June 14. Entries in the competition will be on display at the Youth Art Exhibit -held in connection with the Utah Pageant of the Arts June 9 through 'July 18. X Betty N. Brady, chairman of the board of trustees of the Utah Pageant of the Arts, said judges were impressed by the quality of work entered in the competition. Jimmi Reyes, Springville artist, stated it is a great feeling to see the young people with such talent.
