Show Lindon approves zone change Lindon City Council approved a zone change Wednesday night for the Ken Howard property from P to R120 zone. The P district was a special district for particular zones for things different from what is usually allowed in the zone. The property was originally in the R120 zone but had been changed to P some time ago. The city council said that since there was no opposition registered at the public hearing the council would approve the zone change as it would give more control to the city. A planned unit development has been planned for the property. Paul Urie talked with the council about water drainage in his neighborhood. New construction is taking place which he feels may add to the drainage problems. He said that the water collects on the west side of his property and runs into the road and he fears it will erode the road away. Where the new home is being built is the site of where the water has drained to for years. The water drainage box on the street is actually not in the right place to carry the excess water away. The council suggested that the city engineer take a look at the drainage box to see if it can be moved of if something else can be done to alleviate the situation. Colleen McMillan, chairman of the Lindon Community Progress Committee, showed the council the pictures of the 16 prior mayors of the city which are on display in the council room. Lindon became an incorporated town in 1924 when a town president was chosen so that they could form a water system. She also announced that the committee was sponsoring a Lindon Queen Contest last Thursday night to choose a girl between the ages of 10 and 13 to represent the city at the city fair in August. Storm and irrigation drainage coming from Pleasant Grove is contributing to the water drainage problems in Lindon, according to the Lindon City Council. The council recommended that Pleasant Grove be notified about taking care of its waste water. Norm Castle, proprietor of the Lindon Marina, had asked , the council for a permit to seel beer on one occasion during the summer. The council reported that Chief Ferre had discouraged the issuance of the permit and the council felt the same way. Approval was given to pay the $884 Lindon UVIDA assessment for the year. The amount was the same as last year. The Planning Commission is working on a Master Plan and would like to have input from the citizens in the different areas of the city. The long time residents can give information in-formation to the Commission on drainage problems, etc. The Roughriders Riding Club had made a proposal to Lindon City that they would fix up the riding arena in exchange for use of the area. They said they needed a specific list from the city as to what they would like to have done. It was noted that the riding arena is a city owned facility which is open to the public. The tightening of the fence, the announcers booth and painting are the main things which need to be done. Other clubs might want to do something to help also. The city council was concerned about the complaints from residents about people using the park dump-ster dump-ster to get rid of their private garbage. gar-bage. The council suggested that residents who see that people are using the dumpsters for their own trash should get the license numbers of the offenders and turn them into the city hall. The city will then chase them down. The councilmembers stated that if a few $299 fines were given out it might curb some of the illegal dumping. The council also decided to move the dumpster to a less accessible ac-cessible location. Councilman Dean Blackhurst reported that a double fee will be charged at the landfill for all loads not secured or not covered to prevent trash from falling or blowing out of the trucks. He said the area around 2000 West and 200 South is a mess and looks just awful. He added that he would like to see more police patrol in the area. Fines could help to pay for the cleanup of the streets near the landfill and also discouraged those bringing uncovered loads in. He noted that he had told the Solid Waste District tht the city could listen to a proposal of a zone change for the dump site, as is wanted by -the district, if the district agreed to the conditions which Lindon has set. The conditions are in regards to landscaping at the site and non-blowing non-blowing trash. |
