The five-mil- e section of from Redwood Road to 5600 West in Salt Lake City is the final link in the first fully completed transcontinental Interstate Highway in the U.S. The completed route will be 2,907 miles long. It will connect California State Route 480 (the Embarcadero Freeway) with Interstate 95 at Teaneck, N.J. Opening the section of will provide freeway access to the Salt Lake International Airport. Other major traffic changes associated with the project will require special attention from motorists. The current alignment of North Temple will be permanently changed. Barriers will be placed across North Temple at 2000 West and traffic will be directed south-westerly onto the new alignment which will be known as the Collector. That new alignment will provide direct access to the Salt Lake International Airport and to westbound Motorists wishing to stay on North Temple must first follow the Collector for a short distance to the intersection of 2200 West (Sperry Way), where they can make a right turn back to North Temple. Barriers will also be placed across North Temple at 2400 West, which will become the permanent end of that road. The section of North Temple west of 2400 West will be incorporated into future airport expansion. Crews will be working for ap-- r proximately two more months completing highway connections at the entrance to the airport. There will be some traffic interference where and the Collector cross the existing North Temple alignment. Motorists will encounter minor detours with reduced speeds. A dedication ceremony will be held Friday, Aug. 22, at 5:30 p.m. in the Interchange. Those wishing to aattend should enter eastbound at 5600 West. Flaggers will direct you to the dedication site.
