Local students receiving the scholarship are Kaylyn Clement, business management; Valery Cook, nursing; Darin Giles, electronic elec-tronic technology; and Nick Star, graphics and commercial art. "It is an honor for us to be part of the Pearson Trust Scholarship," said UTC Pres. J. Marvin Higbee. "Our goal is to meet the educational needs of the community and this type of award helps to make that possible." The trust was established by George Pearson, a local inventor, who died in 1972 at the age of 83. His patents on tools, a screwdriver in particular, resulted in the funds used to create the trust. |
