Show Dr. K. Owen Ash elected to leadership of national group I t f 1 Dr. K. Owen Ash, a University of Utah pathologist and former resident of Pleasant Grove, has been elected president of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists. Dr. Ash, son of Donna Ash Brock of Pleasant Grove and the late Leonard Owen Ash, is the second academy president to hold a Ph.D. rather than a medical degree. His major was in Biochemistry with a minor in Organic Chemistry. He received BYU's first doctoral degree in 1961. He received his bachelor degree from BYU in 1958. The academy of which he is now president represents all medical schools in clinical pathology and laboratory medicine, having a membership of approximately 600. Dr. Ash is a professor of pathology and director of clinical chemistry in the University of Utah School of Medicine. He joined the faculty 10 years ago after working in research facilities in Chicago and Minneapolis. Min-neapolis. He was also recently appointed general chairman of the 1987 membership meeting of the American Association of Clinical Chemists. Dr. Ash is married to the former Margel Hamilton and thev are the K. Owen Ash parents of four children. He also has four grandchildren. s An Eagle Scout (thanks, his mother says, to Ray Plle ! leadership), Owen has served l High Councilman in the Minnesol Stake, counselor in a bishopric Minneapolis, and as a High Coun member in the Monument Par Stake in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Pleasmt Grove High School in 1954. |
