Owen Ash, a University of Utah pathologist and former resident of Pleasant Grove, has been elected president of the Academy of Clinical Laboratory Physicians and Scientists. Dr. Ash, son of Donna Ash Brock of Pleasant Grove and the late Leonard Owen Ash, is the second academy president to hold a Ph.D. rather than a medical degree. His major was in Biochemistry with a minor in Organic Chemistry. He received BYU's first doctoral degree in 1961. He received his bachelor degree from BYU in 1958. The academy of which he is now president represents all medical schools in clinical pathology and laboratory medicine, having a membership of approximately 600. Dr. Ash is a professor of pathology and director of clinical chemistry in the University of Utah School of Medicine. He joined the faculty 10 years ago after working in research facilities in Chicago and Min-neapolis. He was also recently appointed general chairman of the 1987 membership meeting of the American Association of Clinical Chemists. Dr. Ash is married to the former Margel Hamilton and thev are the K. Owen Ash parents of four children. He four also has grandchildren. An Eagle Scout (thanks, mother says, to Ray Plle his leadership), Owen has served l High Councilman in the Minnesol Stake, counselor in a bishopric Minneapolis, and as a High Coun member in the Monument Par Stake in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Pleasmt Grove High School in 1954. ! j Elder Dale Uden to report j on mission j Elder Dale Uden, son of Wilferd and Cecilia Uden, Lindon, will j return this week from serving in the : Canada Halifax Mission. He will speak in a sacrament service Sunday, Sept. 15, at 9 a.m. in the American Fork 16th Ward. An open house will be held the same afternoon at the family home at 411 So. 800 West, Lindon. Mission Elder Dana Morton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Dale Morton, Lindon, has been called to serve in the Hartford, Conn. LDS Mission. He will speak in a sacrament service Sunday, Sept. 15, at 1:20 p.m. in the Lindon 3rd Ward, 731 E. Center, Lindon. An open house will also be held the same afternoon at the family home, 355 E. Center, Lindon, from 5 to 7 p.m. Dana has attended Utah Technical College the past year and plans to continue his education in electrical engineering after returning home from his mission. Dana Morton Public invited to rally A pep rally for the BYU vs. Washington game will be held at the University Mall on Friday Sep-tember 13, from 0 p.m. The event, entitled "A Courgar Days Celebration", will appeal to BYU students and Cougar fans of all ages. Cosmo, the BYU Cheerleaders, and members of the band will be in the Mall. Free balloons will be available to the public as well as free samples of Coke products. A variety of other activities will entertain patrons during the pep rally. Kids can register to win a free 8" x 10" picture with Cosmo, courtesy of Kiddie Kandids. A total of eight pictures will be given away between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. At 9 p.m. a "Cougar Country Football True-Blu- e Fan of the Week" contest will be held in Center Court. Prizes, courtesy of University Mall Mer-chants, will be awarded to the most original Cougar fan. The Stars Dance team will give two per-formances, at 7:15 and 9:15 p.m. And merchants are offering special hourly sales listed in flyers available at all "University Mall entrances. The pep rally is sponsored by Cougar Country Football, ASBYU, Coca-Col- a Bottling Co. of Provo, and University Mall. Christopher Young receives Fifteener Webelos Award in ceremony ' ''I Christopher Young, son of Curtis and Bonnie Young, has received the Fifteener Award in his Webelos den. This award is for boys who go the extra mile and earn the remaining eight badges after completing the Arrow of Light requirements. Christopher has earned everything available in the cubbing program. He was one of the youngest in his pack to earn the Faith in God and Conservation Award. He also received his Arrow of Light and is finishing up his Gospel in Action Award. Christopher is in the sixth grade at Grovecrest. He enjoys sports and has participated in football, j baseball, basketball and wrestling. i Christopher is the oldest in the j family, with two brothers and one sister. He has good standards and i goals. He is a good example to them and a big help to his Mom and Dad. Danielson admitted to Utah State Bar following exam George Robertson Danielson, Pleasant Grove, is among 174 successful bar examiness who will be admitted to the Utah Supreme Court and to the United States District Court for Utah in a special joint ceremony in the Rotunda of the State Capitol Building Monday, Sept. 23 at 12:30 p.m. The special ceremony will be presided over by Chief Justice Gordon R. Hall and Chief Judge Bruce S. Jenkins, with the Supreme Court and the U.S. Federal District Court participating. Jason Jarvis receives honors mmmmmmmmmm " Yf''. ? ' ?4) - ' Jason Jarvis, son of Kennetn and Vea Lynn Jarvis, Pleasant Grove, has been named as an Academic. by the National Secon-dary Education Council and as a national award winner in the United States Achievement Academy. Jason is a student at American Fork Junior High School. He was nominated for the honors by his teacher, Judy Runolfson. His award was in the art category. His picture and biography will be published in books sponsored by both organizations. To become an Academic students must earn a 3.3 or better grade point average. Students must be nominated by a teacher for both of these awards. Jason's grandparents are Verna and the late Alma Peterson of Lehi, and Mr. and Mrs. Ray Carter of Orem and the late Eugene Jarvis.
