Show Homecoming means it's time for reunion By MARCKI.LA WALKER Homecoming is coming up next week here in Pleasant Grove. That means there will be a full slate of activities including assemblies, pep rallies, parade, queen pageant, football game and dance. With the school now being able to have night football games, the Homecoming Dance will be held on Saturday, Sept. 21. 1 thought my kids had told me the dance was on the 31st. (It had not yet dawned on me that September only has 30 days. ) And so I thought that was a long time away yet. In fact I was wondering won-dering how come some boys were already asking girls to the dance when it was so far away. My experience has always been that boys are usually so shy to ask a girl that they wait as long as they dare before getting up the courage. Homecoming is an exciting time of year. One thing about it though, it makes you think fall is here for sure. My husband got a notice of his 25 year class reunion at BYU the other day and sent it sailing into the round file. Homecoming with reunions does not interest him. He just likes the football game and the goodies at the tailgate parties. I'm just the opposite. I love reunions. I always wonder what old friends and associates are doing. I'd like to see them again. We have had several reunions up at Weber State and it has been great to see those old buddies again. I thought it would be nice to get my old neighborhood that I grew up in together again. I'd love to see how p.g. blab the Bramble Bums, and all the rest of the kids are doing. There were so many of us and we were all close to the same age. We lived on a quiet street and we could play games in the road all the time because traffic was no problem. We played house, we played cowboys, we played movie star, we put on plays, we put on dance revues, we played hide-and-go-seek, swinging statues, kick the can, Mother, may I, colored eggs, and no bears are out tonight. All of our parents still live there in the same houses on the same street. All of the kids have married and moved away, of course, and we never see each other. It would be so good to get together again, but we won't. It would be wonderful to get to see my old roommates from BYU again. Two of them I see quite often, thank goodness, but the other three I haven't seen for many years. One lives in Provo and I haven't even seen her. Another one is in Alaska and the other none of us know where she is. Another group I would like to see again is my Chanodo sisters from Weber State. The club no longer exists at the school, I don't believe. We used to have so much fun. It would be neat to get together with them after all these years, but we won't. So, you see, I love reunions and am always planning one in my mind. The only trouble is, they never transpire. But it is fun to dream. Do you ever wonder what it would be like to meet one of your old beaus after so many years have gone by? Probably we would not even recognize one another. The Pleasant Grove High School Alumni are invited to all of the Homecoming activites. Other than the football game, not many of them come to any of the events. Why is that? It seems to be pretty universal that Homecoming at high schools is more for the current students than for the alumni but you'd think from the name that it would be more for alumni. For a change this year, why don't all of the alumni attend all the events, and all the townsfolk who are not alumni can come t0- Wn,M , that be nice? Woul(1n t The parade usually does nn tract a big crowd and this woftt good year to change that. Even loves a parade'. The Homecoming Queen PaEfc,n, is very nice. The girls are lovely this is a big moment in their L Everyone loves to look at DlW girls. Come to the pageant. y The assembly is usually a t jerker. Just the kind that alu love. They'll find room for you ff auditorium. Maybe you can even hi on the program. w They ought to have a husp gigantic pep rally and tailgate nam! prior to the football game on FrZ evening. KPGR could put it on Uk KDOT does for BYU in S Everyone would love to come to . huge pep rally and tailgate party Maybe Coke could provide s0mP drinks and chalk it up to advertising and some of those yogurt companies love to give away some y0Rurl Shoot, if BYU can do it, so can P G The game is always terrific and now that they are at night you don't have to look into the setting sun while the game is being played It is nice out there under the lights. Brins the entire family and come to the game. (You'll even get to see the pretty queens again.) Then put on your nice duds and g0 to the Homecoming dance. Buy the wife a corsage and she'll get you a boutenierre. It will be great. Go to the dance. Have a very enjoyable Homecoming, all you alumni and friends. (Hint, hint, Jerry!) |
