Show Bounced check teaches dishonesty Editor: In late July my sons were hired to umpire in the Pony Tournament held in Pleasant Grove. Aug. 10 they were paid by checks which we find will not clear the bank. All my sons' lives we have taught them "A man is no better than his word." So my eldest son called the tournament director and was told "to contact the man that hired you" which he did, and was told "He'd take care of it," which he didn't. To date, Sept. 6, 1985, these checks still will not clear the bank. It's awfully hard for me to teach my kids honesty and integrity when adults do this sort of thing to them. If Pleasant Grove cannot afford to host a tournament and pay their umpires with good checks, then they shouldn't host one. I'd like to see these people prove to my sons what I've been teaching them isn't a farce and people's word, even in 1985, is still good. If not, maybe you parents and fans who love baseball in Pleasant Grove better look for some new, honest leaders. - Phyllis Gray Lehi |
