Show Cornabys honored as Grand Marshalls , A ? : Mr. and Mrs. Robert A. Cornaby have been selected to be Grand Marshalls of the Pleasant Grove High School Homecoming Parade Wednesday, Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. The popular couple were recently recommended also for special recognition for their many years of service with the VILTA-Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program for Senior Citizens and Minority groups. The recommendation was signed by Carol M. Fay, District Director. . "Because of outstanding VITA volunteers like you, we were able to serve thousands of grateful taxpayers in Utah." Mrs. Orpha Walker Cornaby is a native of Pleasant Grove, and except ex-cept for five years has lived in Pleasant Grove all of her life. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and attended Business College. Robert A. Cornaby attended Utah State University on a scholarship, but interrupted his college education to serve five years in the Army of the United States. He served as Chief Warrant Officer in the Infantry in the European Theatre of Operations. The Cornabys Cor-nabys have two daughters, both graduated from Pleasant Grove High School, Mrs. Dennis (Charlotte) Heidenreich and Mrs. Ray (Diane) Lanoy. The Cornabys returned to Pleasant Grove to establish their home after Bob had served three years as Administrative Assistant for the Utah National Guard. He began working at the local post office the first day house delivery was initiated. He retired as postmaster post-master after 30 years of Federal Service. The local post office received citations for "Excellence" and was featured on three different occasions oc-casions in Postal Publications. The Robert and Orpha Cornaby last rating before the postmaster's retirement was "Exceptionally High." It was noted that the local postal employees had the highest delivery performance in the Western Slopes District. It was also noted that during a period per-iod of tight budgeting requirements, require-ments, the local post office increased 48 percent in population, but only one percent in hours used for operation. Mrs. Cornaby, in addition to volunteer time with the VITA program, served as a Pink Lady at the Utah Valley Hospital. For many years she audited the PTA books for the elementary school, and was also secretary for Executive Women, International. Postmaster Cornaby served as Service Officer for the American Legion, ten years on the Pleasant Grove Planning Commission and 12 years on the Federal Fund Raising program with United Way. Bob and Orpha Cornaby hope in some way to return the happiness the many years of assistance in Pleasant Grove has brought them. |
