Show Shellie Eggett reports on trip to Freedom Academy activities t lAMAf . iM0 : A ; . ' .- AAAA':' AAM$A;i; AAA: MA - ' AAsAAAlAmiAiAMAA W' - 5 f -X AH During the week of Aug. 11-16 Shellie Eggett was honored to represent Pleasant Grove High School at Camp Williams for the Freedom Academy. Throughout the week Shellie and students from schools all over Utah were able to attend m any lectures. William Dinehart came to talk to them about Soviet life. Making the students realize how well off we are with the freedoms we have. He also pointed out the Soviets will stop at nothing to be able to have the United States under communist rule. They also heard lectures from an escaped communist boy and a freedom of religion lecture given by George Durrant and Doug Flygare. The week also brought fun activities ac-tivities with the Army. The students were able to shoot M-16 automatic rifles and fire test rounds in large Howitzers. They flew in a refueling plane, and visited the Army Aviation Center in Salt Lake. Students were able to meet the governor and tour the capitol. The students also had a fun time at the 49th Street Galleria, dances used as ice-breakers and some students participated in the talent and speech contests. The Freedom Academy is sponsored by the National Guard and is a week long event that promotes patriotism and a greater understanding of the role of the military in our fight for freedom. Shellie said she had a great time and feels her freedom means much more to her now. Shellie Eggett |
