Show Deseret Village to be dedicated The intermounlain west's first residential and vocational training village for mentally retarded adults, Deseret Village, will be dedicated in Spanish Fork on Saturday, June 29, at 7 p.m. by Elder Hartman Rector of the LDS Church. It is located northwest of the Spanish Fork Airport, 543 W. 1900 North. Speakers will be Norman G. Angus, executive director of Utah Social Services; Mrs. Dorothy Clark of President Reagan's committee on mental retardation; Mrs. Betty Tathum, the governor's administrative ad-ministrative assistant for social services; Mrs. Ineda Roe, executive director of the Utah Council for Handicapped and Developmentally Disabled; and Mayor Enoch Ludlow of Spanish Fork. Keith Richan of American Fork will be master of ceremonies. There will be an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. prior to the dedication ceremony. Deseret Village is non-profit and adheres to Christian standards of conduct. The goal is to become self-sustaining. self-sustaining. Villagers will be growing their own vegetables, beef and pork, eggs and poultry. Two residences, housing eight individuals plus houseparents are completed. Planned are three more residences plus buildings to house work projects such as a bakery, wood shop, doll-making, jams and jellies, candle-making and silk-screening. Other income producing projects will be public hayrides, pasturing horses, raising Christmas trees and ornamental trees, and eventually a small restaurant.
