Strawberry Days events attract throngs Horseshoe Tournament The Strawberry Days Horseshoe Pitching Tournament was held on Saturday, June 22. In the "A" Division there was a three-wa- y tie for 1st place. Jerry Bird of Lehi, James Hafen of Highland, and Vernile Shelly of Orem each posted a 3-- 1 record in the round-robi- n tournament. In the "B" class, Harold Newman and Eugene Beck tied for 1st place honors in posting a 1 record. Thales Smith and Clark Davis tied for third place with a 2 record. We congratulate the win-ners and thank all who participated and supported the event. A special thanks to the Strawberry Days Committee for sponsoring the event. Greased Pole Just how far would you go to earn $10? During Strawberry Days, we were able to find out how far some were willing to go. About 40 young ambitious treasure seekers bared their soles, not to mention their chests, to try and capture the prize at the top of the pole. There was only one catch to getting it. The pole had been covered with vegetable oil. After much slipping, sliding and rolling in the dirt, Mark Yerkus and David Adams conquered the pole and grabbed their prize. Mark representing the under 12 division and David the 12 and over division,. We are planning on having a similar competition during the Community Fair on August 31. We are planning on expanding our age groups to include an 18 and over division. Any takers?? |
