Swenson, Birdseye, and a former resident of Pleasant Grove, is the newly installed chairman of the American National CowBelles Organization in responsibilities of affairs of internal communications at the recent National Cattlemen's and CowBelles Convention held in New Orleans, La. Mrs. Swenson has had respon-sibilities in legislative, election, judging for the past five years. She-ha- s also served as past Utah State CowBelles President for two years during 1981-8- She is now for membership of the Utah State Cattlemen's Association. Mrs. Swenson was born and raised in Pleasant Grove, graduating from high school in 1953. She later attended BYU where she majored in business education and English. She taught high school at South Rich High in Randolph for two years. Employed at Geneva Steel for several years in both secretarial and industrial engineering positions, she became active in the National Secretaries Association, a member of the Association of Iron and Steel Engineers, served as director on the board for both the Geneva Federal Credit Union and the Geneva Recreation Association. She has been a member of the Utah County Fair Board, Committee Member for the Spanish Fork Fiesta Days and has judged beauty and cooking contests throughout the state of Utah. RE NAE SWENSON promotional representative for the state of Utah. She covers the state to call on the retailers and wholesalers and conducts educational programs in promoting beef. The Western Livestock Digest and Journal featured Mrs. Swenson in its February issue as one of the five outstanding American women for her contributions to American agriculture. In their profile in-terview with her, publisher Lee Pitts of the Digest said that her quick smile, enthusiasm, honesty and obvious belief in the worth of her work do much to advance the livestock industry for America. In addition to operating the Pines Ranch in Birdseye, Mrs. Swenson also owns and operates Swenson Rentals throughout Utah County. She is the widow of the late Merlyn J. Swenson, who also attended schools in Pleasant Grove. Her mother, Eva Reynolds, presently resides in Pleasant Grove, and her father, Reed Orton, resides in Birdseye. Her oldest son, Randy, lives in Springville, and Janet, Scott and Amy attend the Spanish Fork schools. She is a graduate ot tne Dale Carnegie Course and is a member of the Women's Committee for the Utah Festival of Trees. She recently represented the state of Utah during the Sagebrush Rebellion Conference. There she was one of seven American women who served on a panel from the Western states, voicing opinions of federal intervention on public lands and its effect on the American consumer. At the present time she is em-ployed by E.A. Miller and Sons Blue Ribbon Beef in Hyrum as their Don B. Fenton to wed Joi Lynn Hanks in Salt Lake LDS Temple ceremony ? f ' 7 4 t i sr ' 1 Don B. Fenton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don W. Fenton and Joi Lynn Hanks, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gale D. Hanks of Salem, have chosen April 20 to seal their love for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake L.D.S. Temple. There will be a reception held that evening in the Salem First Ward chapel located at 50 South Main. All friends and relatives are invited to attend. The maid of honor will be Marianne Hanks, with Gaylen Llowellyn, Kathy Hanks, Debbie Danielson, Sherri Hunter, Allison Williams as bride maids. Best men will be Douglas Danielson and William E. Hunter. Joi Lynn is a graduate of Spanish Fork High School and L.D.S. Seminary. She graduated from Stevens-Henage- r College. She served in the Paris France IDS Mission, and presently works in Salt Lake City. Don graduated from Pleasant Grove High School and L.D.S. Seminary. He attended Stevens-Henage- r College. Students from all grades watched during the day as n figure took on the likeness of his model, Linda Anderson. PGHS student caterers win in statewide cake decorating show i Recently students of the catering management program at Pleasant Grove High School entered a state wide cake decorating show, sponsored by I.C.E.S., International Cake Exploration Society. Four of the students did extremely well. Kristin Williams won the grand champion prize in the juniors division and she also won first prize in the juniors wedding cake section. She received a $25 gift certificate, cake decorating book and patterns, ribbons and certificate for her efforts. Elaine Ludwig, Mariane Murdock, and Angie Jensen all received honorable mentions in the wedding cake division and specialty cakes, juniors division. Each were given cake decorating books, ribbons and certificates. Others elected are Eva Reynolds, first Donna Greaves, second Gloria Seely, secretary and treasurer; Maymetta Johnson, registrar; Colleen Gardner, lesson leader; Beth Wright, reporter; JoAnn Iiddle, historian; Vivian Evans, cheer leader; Florence Holt and Gloria Seely, music; Thelma Yorgason, chaplain; Alta Hone, relic hall; and Gertrude Richards, scrapbook. The meeting was under the direction of Maymetta Johnson. Florence Holt at the piano and Gloria Seely as chorister conducted the music. The minutes and roll call were by secretary, Margaret Hayes. The lesson, "Emigrant Pioneers" was given by Thelma Yorgason. A tribute to William Horsley and John Winn was given. William was born in England and was raised by his mother. When she joined the LDS Church she was cut off from her parents. She moved to London just to be rejected again. She came to America and later William went back to London on an LDS Mission. Margaret Hayes also gave a history of her grandparents, John Joseph Hayes and Rachel Wagstaff. Captain Eva Reynolds thanked all the Daughters for their support for the last two years and wished the new officers the best for the coming two years. Refreshments were furnished by Mrs. Reynolds and Beth Wright. Pleasant Grove man's anecdote in Reader's Digest Ed McGrath of 690 Cherry Hill Drive is the recipient of a $300 check from Reader's Digest for an anecdote submitted to the magazine's department, "All In A Day's Work." Erin Jo Kieffer performs for residents at Alpine Valley Care Center program Erin Jo Kieffer, 10, performed for the residents of the Alpine Valley Care Center recently. Erin, a Orem resident, has per-formed on the Neighborhood Kids TV series. Producers of the series brought her talent to the center for the enjoyment of the residents. She has been requested to per form at the Utah State Prison, also. Ron Stevens, a music publisher, has been trying to help Erin in Nashville, Tenn. The installation was done with candles and new officers are: Leader, Joyce Johnson; June Monson; secretary, Kathy Carter; treasurer, Carolyn Jensen; weight recorder, Donna Shumway; assistant weight recorder, Marie Shepherd. Each took a pledge to serve the club for the coming year to the best of their ability afterwhich each was presented with a single carnation as a token of appreciation. Prior lo uie nisuuiauoii, tnree ladies were honored for their achievements in 1983. They were Donna Shumway, Chapter Queen, who was presented a bouquet of red roses.
