Show Vikings Stop Lehi 17-0 Last Friday Afternoon 13Y Jiick Hill Pleasant Grove shut out Lehi 17-0 last Friday afternoon in the Pioneers Homecoming game. The Vikings took the opening kickol'f and drove 58 yards in 11 plays to score. Tom Strasburg carried the final five yards with I.ayne Butt adding the point alter. Lehi tried two running plays, passed on third down for what proved to be their only completed com-pleted pass of the game; an interception by Viking Joel Wright that he ran back 10 yards to the Pioneer 30. The half ended with the Vikes leading 7-0 on the scoreboard, llalftime statistics were also in P.G.s favor, 7 first downs to 5, 134 yards to 39 for the Pioneers. Late in the third quarter, after Ray lorg recovered a Pioneer fumble, P.G. moved to the Lehi 15 yard line. Viking Q.B. Bret Frampton passed to Gary Jackson in the end zone. Jacksons prone "on his back" catch was good for the T.D. and ranks with the finest catches this writer has seen in 13 years of high school coaching. Butt again added the P.A.T. to boost the Vikes to a 14-0 lead at the end of the third quarter. Ironically, Jacksons catch was the only pass completed by either team to one of its own players. Of the 23 passes thrown by both squads, 3 were intercepted and just the one T.D. pass to Jackson was a completion for the team who threw the ball. An early fourth period 29-yard 29-yard field goal by Layne Butt concluded the days scoring. Several penalties on both teams marred the game and seemed to cut into the quality of play. P.G.'s defensive unit totally dominated the Pioneers throughout the game, allowing Lehi just 10 total yards during the second half. In scouting the Pioneers it was fell that their passing attack was their strength and the defense was designed to stop it. The Viking rush, led by Wynn Head, Tim Hoffer, Clyde Huntsman, Ray lorg, Tom .Slrasburg and Kelly Duke "sacked" the Q.B. five times and forced the Pioneer passers to throw off target. P.G.'s secondary of Kent Prcslwich, Brent Peterson, Dennis Varney, Joel Wright and Craig Walker had the Pioneer receivers covered completely. Statistics P.G.Lehi Score 17 o ' First Downs 13 7 Coinp.
