Show THURSDAY, OCTOBER 9, 1 975 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PLEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY. OCTOBER 9, 1 975 Vikings Stop Lehi 17-- 0 Last Friday Afternoon 13Y Jiick Hill Pleasant Grove shut out Lehi 17-- 0 last Friday afternoon in the Pioneers Homecoming game. The Vikings took the opening kickol'f and drove 58 yards in 11 plays to score. Tom Strasburg carried the final five yards with I.ayne Butt adding the point alter. Lehi tried two running plays, passed on third down for what proved to be their only com-pleted pass of the game; an interception by Viking Joel Wright that he ran back 10 yards to the Pioneer 30. The half ended with the Vikes leading 0 on the scoreboard, llalftime statistics were also in P.G.s favor, 7 first downs to 5, 134 yards to 39 for the Pioneers. Late in the third quarter, after Ray lorg recovered a Pioneer fumble, P.G. moved to the Lehi 15 yard line. Viking Q.B. Bret Frampton passed to Gary Jackson in the end zone. Jacksons prone "on his back" catch was good for the T.D. and ranks with the finest catches this writer has seen in 13 years of high school coaching. Butt again added the P.A.T. to boost the Vikes to a 14-- 0 lead at the end of the third quarter. Ironically, Jacksons catch was the only pass completed by either team to one of its own players. Of the 23 passes thrown by both squads, 3 were intercepted and just the one T.D. pass to Jackson was a completion for the team who threw the ball. An early fourth period field goal by Layne Butt concluded the days scoring. Several penalties on both teams marred the game and seemed to cut into the quality of play. P.G.'s defensive unit totally dominated the Pioneers throughout the game, allowing Lehi just 10 total yards during the second half. In scouting the Pioneers it was fell that their passing attack was their strength and the defense was designed to stop it. The Viking rush, led by Wynn Head, Tim Hoffer, Clyde Huntsman, Ray lorg, Tom .Slrasburg and Kelly Duke "sacked" the Q.B. five times and forced the Pioneer passers to throw off target. P.G.'s secondary of Kent Prcslwich, Brent Peterson, Dennis Varney, Joel Wright and Craig Walker had the Pioneer receivers covered completely. Statistics P.G.Lehi Score 17 o ' First Downs 13 7 Coinp. This plan needs to go to the planning commission but he asked the council to review the plat and make any recommendations at this time. Councilman Mills indicated that he would like to review the road locations on site and a time was set to do this. Bert Taylor, owner of property at the Timp Heights Subdivision, met with the council to request further review by the council of his request for two duplex units to be constructed on the remaining two vacant lots in the subdivision. He indicated that this type of dwelling is a natural lor the area and fits into the development better than single dwellings on the lots. The previous problems in this area were discussed and Mr. Taylor indicated that he has and is eliminating these problems by better control of the area. The council voted to allow Mr. Taylor to build a duplex on each of the two remaining lots in the subdivision. Councilman Mills voted nay on the motion. Richard Clark, owner of a home at 301 North 200 East reported to the council that he had appeared before the Board of Adjustments requesting a variance to the city front yard requirement which he needs to be able to build a garage on his house. He has told at the meeting that on this street, the city has agreed to reduce the width of the road to a 56 ft. road and deed the surplus property to the abutting property owners. He asked the council to carry out this plan so that he then would have sufficient front yard to build his garage. The council authorized the quit claim deeds to be prepared and given to the property owners. Allen Christofferson, representing the Community Youth Council, presented in-formation about this council and how they help to work with juvenile problems. The council voted to further study this plan and decide at the next meeting about participation. The council mem-bers generally felt that the expense to the city to support the organization exceeded the benefits received and that serious consideration be given before additional financial support is given. The Council discussed the possibility of allowing city employees to reside outside the city limits of Pleasant Grove. A vote on the matter was taken and Councilman Neil Fugal and Huntsman voted in favor of the present policy requiring residency in the city. Coun-cilman Bezzant and Mills voted in allowing residency outside of the city. Being a tie, the Mayor voted to maintain the present policy.
