And when Thomas A. Edison was in school, he was always at the foot of his class because he couldn't remember his three R's. His teachers called him stupid, and doctors predicted that he would have serious brain trouble. Hunting on the Uinta Nation-al Forest will continue for sev-eral more weeks. The elk hunt extends for 1 more week-en-and the annual deer hunt opens extends for 1 more week-en- Saturday, October 19th. A major concern this year is still the extreme fire hazard resulting from extended drou-ght conditions throughout the National Forests. "We went in-to the opening of the hunt un-der some of the driest condit-ions ever. We appreciate the fine attitude most hunters have with the care of fire and litter," Supervisor Bruce B. Hronek, noted. The Fire Prevention Order is still in effect throughout the state and will continue to be enforced, with citations being issued to those who build camfires or warming fires in unauthorized areas, Hronek continued. The Restriction Order prohi-bits setting open fires, except in facilities provided at camp-goun- d and picnic areas or per-manently improved places of habitation, or where otherwise authorized by an official of the Forest Service. Smoking will also be prohib-ited, except in dwellings, at im-proved recreation sites, in a boat, on a paved road, while wading in a stream, or where an 18-in- diameter has been scraped bare to the soil. The campgrounds are open. The water has now been turn-o- f off. "With all the leaves lying around, the campgrounds are a potential fire danger in themselves and care is urged in building campfires in the designated areas,' Hronek stat-ed. |
