Show TRACTORS FOR I I WESTCANADA Old Dobbin Being Displaced In Great Prairie Areas Of North WASHINGTON' July 15. Old Dobbin Dob-bin Is being chased out of western . Canada by the tractor. Secretary of Commerce Herbert Hoover has Just made public the following fol-lowing report from Consul General Brittain of Winnipeg: "A total of 3438 tractors was sold' In the prairie province of Canada I during 1921 Of these, 1057 were sold In the province of Manitoba, 1656 In Saskatchewan and 71tf in Al- berta. This represents sales of new ; machines In all sizes, the largest pro- i portion being Included In two classes from six to twelve horsepower and fro mten to twenty horsepower A limited number of machines of fourteen four-teen to twenty-five horsepower and sixteen to thirty-two horsepower was sold. "These figures indicate a very marked docreaso as compared with tractors sold in 1920. The number of machines old In 1921 I slightly over 23 per cent of the total number sold In 1020 The decreased sale Is accounted for largely by tho de- pressed condition In the market for agricultural implements, and not to any deficiency in tho operator of the tractors themselves. ' It is estimated that In 1921 there ; were 33,000 tractors In western Can-I Can-I ada, of which tho total value was $24.26o,000. The average number of days during: which each tractor was operated in 1921 is given as twenty-two, twenty-two, which is about twenty-one days less than for 1920. This is accounted for largely by the limited amount of new ground that wa broken in the past year. "The prospects for 1922 are much Improved, but In many instances the farmers, as a result of the depression depres-sion of last year, are unable to find BUfflcienvcapiUJ with which to purchase pur-chase new tractors. The farmers who :re uMiig tractors are w.-ll satisfied with them and there is no duubt that the use of tractors will continue to Increase." |
