Show DEPOSEDGHIEF General Aguinaldo- Who Was Captured by Gen. Funston, Is Still Popular MANILA, General Eniilio Aguinaldo, Aguinal-do, who fought for the Independence of the Philippines and was captured by General Funston, still holds a strong place in the affections of the Filipino people. This was demonstrated when he left the hospital the other day to pay a visit to l-'3 farm at Kawit about 50 miles from Manila. Aguiualdo has been in the hospital recovering from an operation for appendicitis ap-pendicitis bin .as permitted to go to his home to celebrate his 51st birth- Accompanied by his physician and a nurse, ho made the fifty mile trip by automobile. Although bsi visit was not announced in advance, the news of his coming spread and the people of the villages along the way gathered at the roadside and the children threw flowers into his automobile. At one village the children waved American and Filipino flags and sang "Aguinal-do's "Aguinal-do's March." At his home he was met by nearly all the villagers headed by a band and speakers gave him welcome. After spending a night at the farm he returned to the hospital. Aguinaldo seemu assured against want. Besides tho pension of $6000 granted to him by the legislature be owns about 2500 acres of Friar lands in Cavlte province which ho bought from the government, of which 300 acres are planted in rice and sugar cane, owns nearly 1000 acres in the foothills of Cavlte, where ho grows hemp; Is vice president of two large vegotable oil concerns and has a handsome hand-some residence in Manila. When ho was captured by General Funston In 1901 after leading his campaign cam-paign for Independence, he gave his promiso to the Americans that he would not again take up arms and he has kept his promise.
