Findings I of the special committee of 171 prominent prom-inent Republicans named in January to gather data for the party's national platform were brought today under the scrutiny of a conference of party leaders for revision and perfection before be-fore their presentation to the Chicago convention. The committee's sugs rations, split up into 21 sub-committee reportB on 21 possible campaign issues, were discussed dis-cussed exhaustively at an all-day meeting meet-ing attended by Will H. Hays, national nation-al chairman. The conference will continue tomorrow. Questions of Domestic Policy. All the sub-committee reports related relat-ed to questions of domestic policy, the party's declarations of foreign affairs, Including tho treaty of Versailles, being be-ing loft to be worked out at later conferences. con-ferences. It was said that ..n the main the conclusions con-clusions of the special committee were given approval at today's conference, though some eliminations were made, further suggestions added. All the leaders declared, however, that decisions decis-ions reached at the meeting were in no sense binding and that other changes doubtless would be mado when the convention met It was indicated, indi-cated, however, that the committee's report might bo made public when the work of revision was completed. The conference today constituted a newly created executive committee of 171 and was made up of all the senators sena-tors and representatives holding membership mem-bership on the. full committeo, and of the chairmen of the 21 sub-committees. In addition, several conventions delegates who are to sit on the platform plat-form committee attend |
