Three hundred or more leaders of the electrical elec-trical industry of the United States at the opening of the four days convention conven-tion of the National Electric Light Association listened to plans to cut the high cost of living by electrifying railways and uniting physically all tho electric power companies in tho United States. . "Increased, efficient and economical production alone Is the solution of tho high cost of living problems, declared M II. I Mr. Aylesworth said electrification of railroads was bound to come. "Eliminate "Elim-inate tho necessity of railroads hauling haul-ing coal for their use," he said, "and, with their present equipment, they could handle more than twice the normal .freight traffic of the country. Breakdown Minimized. "Physical Interconnection of electric light and power lines," He said, "already "al-ready has been ordered by several state public utility commissions. They expect this action to be emulated hy other commissions because it means better and more continuous service for tho public and more economical operation of the individual companies by tending to equalize the power load factor. By this physical Interconnection, Interconnec-tion, Individual companies having surplus sur-plus olectric enorgy would furnish the surplus to adjacent companies having greater custom than they were able to provide for. Interruptions to service ser-vice through breakdowns, fuel shortage short-age or water power failure also would bo minimized." nn |
