Show RELATIVES GIVE SKIN, SAVING LAD USE OF HIS ARM Through the sacrifices of several sev-eral inches ot skin, Delore Powell, Pow-ell, year-and-a-half son of Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Powell, of West Twelfth street, will not lose use of his arm which he Injured three weeks ago ' in an electric wringer J. J. Powell, father of the boy, his sister-in-law. Mrs. A. J. Powell, Pow-ell, and Miss Elsie' Powell, aunt of tho boy, who is an employ of the forest service, offered their skin to save the youngster's arm. The accident occurred when the ' mother, after having shut off the power which operated the wring-orjMefl wring-orjMefl the room. The boy dragged a chair to the washing machine and in some way turned the switch, starting tho wringer in motion. His screams attracted his mother, and when she came to his assistance, the boy's arm had been run through the wringer, tearing the skin loose from the elbow ripping gashes in tho boy's shoulder shoul-der and under his arm. Following tho accident the wounds in the boy's shoulder and chest healed, but the skin at the elbow became dead. Dr. Edward "Rich attended the case and transferred trans-ferred the skin of the youngster's relatives to the boy's arm last Saturday. But, half tho wound was covered, the remainder not being in condition for grafting. ' In describing the removal of skin, Miss Powell stated that the doctor held the skin tight, and Avith a razor cut strips off, the strips being an inch wide ' and about two inqhes long. . No ar.aR-thetic ar.aR-thetic was used. The youngster is expected to recover from the accident and regain re-gain free use of his-arm. |
