Show DENIES RAILROAD INTENDS TO LAY OFF SHOPMEN BECAUSE OF STRIKE; ENGINEMEN RECEIVING GUARANTEES j Rumors that the Southern Pacific (company intends to lay off a number of employes In tho Ogden shops, which have been circulated about Ogden Og-den thp past few days "arc absolutely absolute-ly groundless." J). H. Hlckey. master mechanic at the 'Southern Pacific shops, 'confirmed Mr. Smith's report that no orders for a whpesale dismissal of shop em-j em-j ployes was anticipated locally. Word from the offices of. the Ogden Og-den L'nion Railway and Depot company com-pany indicates thaht no change of attitude at-titude was apparent on the part of striking switchmen. Despite this, the trend of opinion around tho depot is that the switchmen will return to work soon. The local yards have been cleared of perishable freight, it Is dccIaVcd, a carload of -fruit from California having gone cast yesterday. Meat and other pcrishablo material has also been shipped from the yards. Cattle on tho Union Pacific, between be-tween Ogden and Evanston, aro suffering suf-fering acutely because, of the strike, it is reported. Feed at Morgan, Coalville- and other, points on the Union Pacific, has been eyhaustcd. and cattle cat-tle are starving. Shipments of hay consigned to ranchers in that district 'are said to be held up in the Ogden J yards. Local members of the Erotherhood of ' Railway Clerks met last night at ' the Eagles' -hall - to -discuss the -strike situation. No action was taken at the meeting, it was said, from a resoutlton that there would be no strike unless1 orders from headquarters of the or-j or-j ganlzatlon, were received. No trouble of this nature Is anticipated. Shopmen working at the S.
