Show WHIP PUPIL ONLY IN SELF DEFENSE j SA'LT LAKE, April 4. If the whipping is done is self-defense, the school teacher is justified in so punishing pun-ishing a pupil, is the opinion of State Superintendent of Public Instruction George N. Child, according to a letter let-ter written by him to the Spokano Chronicle, which paper has been con-' con-' ducting a symposium on the matter of child punishment. Mr. Child states that the general rule in this state is against corporal punishment but there may be circumstance in which the teacher would be fully justified In resorting re-sorting to such iftmishment to curb the angry passions of an altogether unruly child However, on general principles, corporal punishment is not to be desired because it fails in the great majority of cases to produce the desired results of better behavior. |
