Show A Telephone DSrectory 1 If time Is money then 1t Is worth while to fix up the ttlephone directory for quick and easy referc:-.co with an index Tabs printed on gummed c'. Mh can be bou;ht at stationery stores, but a home-made set can be made In a little while that will answer equally well To make the tabs use a strip of tbe stout gummed pnper that many merchants row use for fastening pr-ckagea In place of string. The narrowest that comes is about one Inch and a quarter wide. This six v about rl -bq for the purpose. With a hard lean pencil draw a line lengthwise through the centre of the strip and two J other lines parallel to the centre linn a quarter of an Inch f.om .ich edge. When thls Is done the paper Is ready for printing. The printing can be done cither by band, with good black Ink. or wi:h a typewriter Place the letter J m dway between the quarter inch lino nearest the left hand margin and the certre line, and then space enough times to briny the point of wri.lng to a point halfway between the centre line and the right hand qusrter-icch line. Between the letters A and B space three line- and print the B'a exactly under the A's. and so on. When the printing Is done, remove from the machine. If written on the typewriter, and crease the paper along the centre line, gummed surface Inside the fold; next crease along the two quarter Inch lines In th opposite direction from the crease Ion the centie line. Moisten the portion of the paper betw-een the two quarter I Inch lines and stick together. When this SSMSSSJSJSSJ is dry, and there is no danger of the two outside flaps adhering, cut the letters apart. To mount the Index place the A tab astride the rage where names spelled with A begin The tab must be ail the way to 'he top of the page and not bet on askew Turn the tab down on the front edge of the book and draw a light pencil line along Its lower edge. Then open the directory to section B and place the R tab over the first page of the section In such a way that the upper edge of B tab comes exactly In a line with the under edge of A tab. If all the alphabet Is carefully arranged It will present an unbroken line from the top to the bottom of the book. The bottom of the book may be reached before all the letter are In place. Should thii happ&n begin again at the top of the book and proceed aa for the first series. |
