Show Ft. Douglas to Be Made a Post For Engineers WASHINGTON, July 8-Fort Douk-las Douk-las is not to be abandoned as a mill tary post It will be one of the few western posts under army rr-orpaniza-; ion that will bo retained as an active military station. This assurance today was given United Uni-ted States Senators W. H. King and Reed Smool. of Utah, who called on General March, chiel ot stair, to l irn the fate of the Utah post. The senators sen-ators urged General March to main tain Fort Douglas a3 a permanent armv pot and to retain a permanent station sta-tion of troops there. Genera! March told the rtah -ena tors that Fort Douglas, aftpr it ceases to be primarily a hospital, will be continued con-tinued as engineer headquarters for the army of the entire west, and at thai post will bo purchased and stored I all engineer supplies for western use that can bo obtained In that vicinity. In addition, General March said a detail de-tail of troops, either cavalry or infantry, infan-try, will be stationed at Fort Douglas, the sizp of the detail not yet having be n determined. nn |
