H RODMAN IN COMMAND I Will Sail From Hampton I Roads for West H WASHINGTON, July 9 The newly ! organized Pacific fleet will sail from j Hampton Roads for the west coast 1 Saturday, July 19. It was announced at the navy department today that j final arrangements were completed at a conference in New York yesterday between Secretary' Daniels and Ad- H miral Hugh Rodman, commander of the fleet. Mr. Daniels said the fleet would be at San Diego between August 5 and j 10. & After stopping at Los Angeles. San Francisco and Puget Sound, a number of the ships pjbably will go to Ha- j wail for a short stay. J Secretary Daniels has not decided ! definitely that he will accompany the fleet, but if he does not he will meet it at San Diego and make the cruise I northward on the Pacific coast and to HawaiL j Many of the vessels of the Pacific H fleet are now in Hampton Roads, while j the others are at Atlantic coast navy J vards where minor repairs are being completed. It is expected that the en- J tire force will be concentrated at H Hampton Roads by the middle of next ij Secretary Daniels said his contem- j plated trip to Hawaii was in connee- I ;tion with recommendations which he j will make to congress next fall for improvements im-provements at Pearl harbor, the naval j i base In Hawaii Mr. Daniels said the . j Pacific fleet would be based at Pearl harbor much of the time and that very extensive improvements would be ne-. ne-. i ary there in order to care for the ! armada.
