Show SAL001S ON BORDER TO SE PUT OUT OF Acting on tho request of Governor Simon Bamberger of Utah, Governor Emmet D. Boyio of Nevada yesterday tolcgraphed tho county commissioners of Elko county, Nov., to deny applications applica-tions for renewal of licenses to certain saloons at Wendovor and Deep Creek, Nov., which will expire this month, O. C. Dalby, assistant attorney general of Utah, departed yesterday to appear before tho Elko county commissioners to make a plea for refusing renewal of licenses to the saloons in question. It is charged that these licenses allow al-low the Nevada liquor dealers to defy the Utah prohibition law by sending liquor Into Utah by means of Western Pacific railway employes and also by certain automobile men. The telegram tele-gram from Governor Bamberger to Governor Boyle and the latter's reply to Utah's executive, quoting his telegram tele-gram to the Elko county commissioner, commission-er, follow: "Salt Lake-City, Utah, March 4, 1918, "Honorable Emmett D. Boyle, Governor Gover-nor of Nevada, Carson City, Nov.: "Understand that county commissioners commis-sioners of Elko county, Nov., will hold hearing on saloon licenses for places near Utah lino on Mnrch G. These saloons sa-loons supply liquor for illicit sale in Utah and eonstiluto a serious menace. Assistant attorney general of Utah will be present nt hearing in Elko. Would greatly appreciate it if you would wire county commissioners asking them to consider seriously our protest against operation of saloons near stato line. "SIMON BAMBERGER, Gov." "Carson, Nev., March 5, 191S. "Honorable Simon Bambergor, Gov. of Utah, Salt Lake City, Utah: "Have wired . tho county liquor board at Elko as follows: " 'Am advised your board will meot tomorrow to consider continuation of saloon licenses in territory adjacent to Stato of Utah. Those saloons are so obviously maintained to supply liquor for consumption in a neighboring state in violation of federal laws that Elko county cannot stand under tho suspicion sus-picion of co -operating in something which it is in your power to suppress and which violates tho spirit of comity between Nevada and Utah, while at the same time contributing to the violation vio-lation of tho federal laws prohibiting the importation of liquor Into dry states.
