Tho identity iden-tity of those responsible for tho war on ranchers near Lyman, Wyo., last fall, which cost tho life of a Salt Lake man and caused a reign of terror of more than a month, may be disclosed through an arrest made here yesterday, yester-day, officers believe. W. E. Hathen-brook, Hathen-brook, 26 years old, was arrested by Charles E. Wood and Joe Turnbow, deputy sheriffs, on a warrant from Evanston, Wyo, Arson is charged. Until the present the burning of hay and grain stacks and ranch buildings, the pillaging of unprotected property and the sending of anonymous threatening threat-ening letters, to say nothing of tho slaying of C. I. Christenson, shot on his ranch October 3 by his 17-year-old son, Leroy Christenson. have been unavenged. Hathenbrook has knowledge knowl-edge of those responsible and they will bo forced to answer for tho part they played, Wyoming officers state. Hathenbrook is married and has one child. Mr. Christenson was manager of the Bennion Livestock company and resided re-sided at 137 East Second South street. He had a 500 -acre homestead at Lyman. Ly-man. Ho had been notified of the receipt re-ceipt by all ranchers of that district of letters warning them to "clear out on penalty of your lives and property." He left Salt Lako to protect his property. prop-erty. On the night ot October 2 huge stacks of hay and grain had been burned by the pillagers on the Christenson Chris-tenson ranch and a battlo with guns and revolvers had been fought at Lyman Ly-man between them and the ranchers. None of the ranchers had been in-' in-' jured. Mr. Christenson had gone on a sentry sen-try round near his ranch houso the following night, when he was mistaken for a marauder by his son and shot He died two days later. Efforts of the ranchers to bring tho pillages to justice jus-tice have been unromittlng, but theli Identity has boon hard to learn. |
