Show JERRY DOWNS GIVES BOYS FATHERLY TALK FRESNO, March 6. Rain last night threw a decided chill into the air this morning, but Jerry Downs got a hunch that it might be worse in the afternoon, after-noon, so he took his brave Seals out for a workout this forenoon. He guessed right, for rain this afternoon made practice out of the question. Manager Downs has warned the youngsters to Uike things easy, and In a fatherly talk he told them he had seen a lot of morning glories, and had seen many a promising young player spoiled because he cut loose too soon. He is going to carry the boys along easy and get down to hard work next week. Biff Schaller and John Hummell should gTab jobs as fly-chasors, and Goldle may be tho third man if he gets In and drills hard. Ed Roland, the Fresno boy, who is trying out as a catcher, sprained his ankle this morning morn-ing and will be out of it for a while. Koerncr is overdue, Corhan is expected ex-pected tomorrow, Hummell should be hero Sunday and Spider Baum will como as quickly as he can got away from his work on the draft board in San PYancisco. |
