Walter McCredie, carrying In his pocket a sheaf of contracts, which give him all right, title and interest in the baseball craft of a fine- collection of candidates, including Dees, Ducks and. eastern leaguers, arrived this morning from the south to superintend his job of making the Salt Lake baseball team for the season of 191S. Leverenz and Orr arc the only regulars regu-lars to report thus far. There are eight kids in the bunch who have, reported to date. Earl Sheely, who has been coaxing coax-ing apple trees to blossom up at Spokane Spo-kane for the past six months, has notified no-tified the management that he is on his way, and Paddy Siglin is also en route to Porterville. McCredie said nothing on his arrival here, which would indicate that the management is at all that the management is at all worried over the prospect of holdouts for tho year. Although it is understood, under-stood, the question of salary is still at issue with several of the men of last year's team. Leverenz was listed with those who are not quite satisfied wtih their contracts, con-tracts, but Walter is here, which would appear to indicate that his dissatisfaction dis-satisfaction is not to be taken seriously. serious-ly. Work was completed today on the baseball diamond at the Athletic park, and McCredie indicated his entiro sat-jj sat-jj isfaction with the playing accommoda- n tions after visiting the park. It is doubtful if work can be started seriously before the last of the week. The first exhibition game is that salted salt-ed for Sunday with the Porterville amateurs. Tho weather was very disagreeable today, with a chilly rain, and the forecast fore-cast is for occasional showers tomorrow. |
