Show OPENING OFllT SCHOOL MOMMY According to Henry C. Johnson, superintendent su-perintendent of the city schools, a finely constructive piece of work is to be done under the guidance of Professors Pro-fessors Reeves and Junk in the high school of this city, commencing with Monday night at 7 p. m. when a class for foreigners and illiterates in "English "Eng-lish and Americanism" will be started. start-ed. Mr. Johnson is hopeful that wide publicity will be given to the purposo of this class as Utah has reason to direct herself to the task of educating the foreigners. "Americanism will be the practical study of American history and civics In tho effort to teach the new comer to this country, or one who has been denied the advantages of education, just what America Is and what she is meant to be and what kind of a man the American of the future must bo in order to uphold the traditions of a great past and the hope of a glorious glor-ious future," said Mr. Johnson. With regard to other night school! work, Mr. Johnson was not able to sayj anything definite this morning as the fine program which had been mapped ! out and begun in September was knocked all to the four winds by the epidemic, but, after consultation with the high school staff relative- to this proposition, a statement will bo made to the public, says Mr. Johnson. oo |
