All indications at 3 o'clock this afternoon were that Premier Lloyd George and his govern- ( ment would have an overwhelming majority in the new J1 i house of commons. Herbert H. Asquith, former premier and leader of the. 'jM Liberal party, has been defeated for his seat in the house of commons from the east division of Fife, Scotland. Arthur Henderson, leader of the Labor party and formei I member of the war cabinet, has been defeated for re-election to parliament from the south district of Eastham. The vote there was Clement Ward, coalition Liberalj 7,972; Frank Hamlette, Unionist, 5,661; Arthur Henderson, H Labor, 5,024. .H LvONDONu.Dec. 28. Williams, laborite, 11,553 to ! Sir Albert Stanley, president of the board of trade, was re-elect- d for Ashton-UnderLyne. He received 10,260 votes against 7,334 j H j for T. F. Lister, candidate of the National Federation of Discharged ' H Soldiers and Sailors. H At Blackburn, Phillip Snowden, laborite and pacifist, was de- H feated. The result there was: Sir Henry Norman, coalition liberal, . H 32,076; Lieutenant Commander Dean, coalition unionist, 30,158; H i Phillip Snowden, 15,274. Blackburn has two seats. , H j Of the 353 members whose elections had been announced so far, H aot less than 274 support the government. The new house will have I ' 707 members. Of the members already elected 198 are coalition un- H ionists and 76 are coalition liberals. The independent unionists have H elected eight members and the Asquithan liberals only five.
