The restrictive orders or-ders were made necessary in order that essential war activities might not suffer for an adequate supply of fuel. When final compilations are made on the basis of complete returns officials offi-cials are confident that this industry will show, a saving -of approximately one and one half million tons. A 37 per centsaving of the normal amount consumed was effected by the industry indus-try on the basis of figures to date. The orders Issued on April 13 were so. worded that plants were permitted to burn their allotment of fuel at any time during the year. Many concerns elected to run at full capacity V ,:,M their fuel allowance had been consuia j ed an then close down entires . v. the war had continued and the nect sity for curtailment had remained- j is apparent that figures for the ' J . half of the year would have revealed very much greater saving. 1$ J |
