Show PIER OF ILL1 DOLLARS FOR IRE LOCAL YARDS During the year 1917, there was expended ex-pended 116,200 on various terminal improvements and the installation of facilities In the Ogden terminals to ex-pediate ex-pediate the movements of trains. During August this year, 93,435 cars were handled by the 500 employes kept on the regular monthly payroll amounting to approximately $G0,000 of the Ogden Union Railway & Depot company. During tho succeeding month of September, there were 88,-761 88,-761 cars, freight and passenger, handled. han-dled. The average, as is shown by those two months, is approximately 90,000 cars a month. It is olDclally estimated that, 'to Tur-1 thcr increase the quick nnd safe handling han-dling of the enormous trafTic that must receive attention at the local terminals, termi-nals, moro than a quarter of a million dollars must be expended next year in improvements. The estimate will reach more than a quarter of a million, but I that amount Is given to be conserva tive. There will be new tracks laid, l old tracks extended and other equip- .H ment placed. Those facts are instanced merely flU because they are local happening Kfl right here in the city of Ogden and to suggest the patriotism and efficiency .H and absolute confidence and thorough '1 Americanism of American railroaders 'U from section hand to president. It is Hfl one of the inspiring signs of the times lH that the railroads are given every atom of constructive and operative and fin-ancial fin-ancial ability and genius to aid the i , United States in successfully prosecut- "HJ Ing its great war for universal free- -pH dom, The roads have been passing through the peak-lead poriod of war- time freight movement and the manner VHJ in which they have responded to. tho emergency call for service will stand flH as a record for years to come and il should excuse them from the attacks jl of the political demagogue the fleas al and gnats and pests.
