Our total operating expense was 5 per cent. It costs the average grocer 8 per cent to deliver. The cost is just the same to deliver one hundred dollars worth of jH j groceries as it is to deliver five hundred dollars worth, hence he must always keep a full equip- ) ment on hand, whether his business is large or small. I THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS FREE DELIVERY. I The cost of maintaining a delivery system is enormous, and that cost must necessarily be added j to the cost of merchandise. Take 8 per cent for delivery, and add 8 per cent for other expenses f (and no doubt most grocers would feel highly elated at that small per cent) the total would make 5 jH 16 per cent, against our 5 per cent. Now the food administration says that we shall only make a j fair profit on our merchandise. The grocer whose cost of doing business is 16 per cent and adding the government per cent of profit, say 10 per cent, vould be selling his goods for 26 per cent above 4 f cost. Our gross per cent would only be 15 per cent, which shows 11 per cent saved. Now just be- cause we operate for 5 per cent does not excuse us for charging the same that the 16 per cent man j does. Uncle Sara says that we must only make so much profit. However, we are glad for one I jH thing Uncle Sam never had to make us do this, we have done it for several years, and our greatest I satisfaction is not that we have amassed wealth, but that we have been a benefit in every commun- I IH ' ity in which we have operated. j Pearl barley, 2 lbs. for . . 25c FRESH FRUITS AND VEGE- IDAHO FLOUR t I You will want lots of good TABLES One of the leading bakers in j things to cat, naturally you ex- We will have a full assortment Ogden highly recommends our I H n u u f m of everything In this line.
