Show WRESTLING MATCHES ARE " IT OF HIGH MERIT AJVO (By Billy Glasmann.) In the last few years a great number of the Ogden fans have often asked: "Are the wrestling and boxing matches in Ogden on the square?" Many say that they are. others say they do not know, while still others have quit going go-ing to the matches because they believe be-lieve that they ae not run in good faith. Some of the matches have been bloomers, and others have looked good The last match was sure a lemon and it reminds me of the "great Harbertson-Brown match." It do not doubt tho honesty of any of the promoters, pro-moters, or any of the local athletes, but I do blame the combination here for picking soft ones for the local champ. Ilackenschmidt has never been a good wrestler, and has not wrestled for years. Of the original purse in the Inst match he was to re-ceive re-ceive $250 of the 750 winner-take-all -J purse. On the day of the match a . new agreement was drawn up. This time the purse was for $500. This was to be split, 75 per cent to the winner J and 25 per cent to the loser. Is this I in good faith with the public. The new contract was made on account of a disagreement , between Hacken-schmiid Hacken-schmiid and Harbertson. The Alhatnbra theater management was entirely free from any part in the transaction. From now on I hope the promoters will pick wrestlers for Harbertson, and not has-beens. |
