ARTILLERY FIGHTING Destructive Fire Against British Brit-ish Prevents Storming Ac-tack Ac-tack Sanguinary Losses. BERLIN, April 16, via London, 4:35 p. m. Between Soissons and Verdun, says the official statement issued today to-day by German army headquarters, the British and French yesterday lost 11 airplanes, mostly of the latest type. "Near St. Quentin," says the announcement, an-nouncement, "the artillery fire again has increased. "From Soissons to Rheims and in tho western Champagne there was exceptionally ex-ceptionally heavy artillery fire and mine throwing. After the failure of enemy reconnoitering thrusts yesterday yester-day infantry fighting developed this morning over wide sectors." "On the northern bank of tho River Scarpe," says tho German official statement, "our destructive fire kept down the British attacking waves and a Storming attack could not be0 carried out.
