Richards, Warren L Wat-tis, Wat-tis, Jesso Richards and others in obtaining, ob-taining, by unanimous vote and without with-out delay, the recent $10,000 appropriation appropria-tion for the Golden Spike exposition, is here today on a visit for business aftd pleasure. He is a guest of Judge Richards, who introduced him as the legislative leader who was entitled to a warm welcome In Ogden for his prompt and generous support of the exposition measure, Mr. Shearer is famous as the "lettuce "let-tuce king' of Idaho. He knows how to coax the succulent salad to do its level best. He has made lettuce growing grow-ing extremely profitable. Last year he took $1305 worth from one acre of ground and he marketed whopping crops from six acres in October and November. Mr. Shearer is also a noted fruit grower and a trustee on the National Apple Show board. The Idahoan is kepnly interested in the general effort to mobilize farm resources and evinced his readiness to serve Weber county as adviser or otherwise. oth-erwise. Personally, he is" largelv increasing in-creasing his acreage of production, including in-cluding 400 acres in navv beans. Besides these creative activities and his leading work as a legislator, Mr. Shearer is an active member of the great publishing firm of Newson & Co 73 Fifth avenue, New York Citv While here, incidentally, he may confer con-fer with the board of education regarding re-garding school books. Mr Shearer is known far and wide as one of the efficient empire builders of Idaho, operating in a large and constructive con-structive way. |
