Show UTAH IS EXPECTED TO liHSE GUM SALT LAKE, April' 11. Information received in Salt Lake is that the war department at Washington will issue orders to the adjutant general's de-department de-department of the national guard of Utah to proceed to organize new units of the national guard to the extent of six new troops of cavalry and ono additional ad-ditional battery of field artillery to bring the Utah guard to a full regimental regimen-tal war footing. Of the additional units three troops of cavalry are to be line troops, one headquarters troop, one machine gun troop and one supply troop. It is expected ex-pected here that one of the line troops will be organized at Brigham City, one at Richfield and another at Bountiful The headquarters, machine gun and supply troops are to be located at Salt Lako, which is the headquarters of the guard. The additional battery, if organized, probably will be organized at Salt Lake, it is stated. Under the prosent organization tho guard has nine troops, or two squadrons squad-rons and one extra troop. Upder thei new regulations a regiment consists of fifteen troops, twelve of which are line tioops, divided into three squadrons of four troops each, with the three additional troops in the form of machine ma-chine gun, headquarters and supply troops. To recruit the guard up sufficiently to fill out these six new units to full strength would require about GOO men, It Is stated, and when tho orders aro Issued the guard will have to start tho recruiting at onco of this number of men to fill up the now units. The guard has been seeking for some time to get authority to organize organ-ize the second battery of field artillery, as all equipment necessary for tho battery bat-tery is now on hand at Denver and could be sent here on short notice. That authority would be granted for the organization of the six new troops of cavalry was oxpected because of the fact that filling tho Utah cavalry out to full regimental organization is necessary to complete the quota of tho Sixteenth cavalry division of tho United Unit-ed States, of which the Utah guard would be a part when called Into the federal service. It is pointed out by local guard officers offi-cers that the plan for organization of the national guard of tho nation as outlined by the war department in dispatches dis-patches yesterday does not preclude tho organization of now units of tho guard of Utah, because these new units aro needed to complete Itsfull organization, organ-ization, and under tho war department instructions now units are permitted to fill out incomplete organizations and troop divisions. |
