Show PEDRO ROMERO PLEADS GUILTY BUT IIS ; GflSE IS DELAYED . Pedro Romero, about 25 years old, a grim-looking thug charged with burglarizing bur-glarizing the offices of the Gwilliam Lumber and Coal company, at Twenty-second and Wall avenue, on March 28, was ararlgned to plead before Dis- trict Judge Alfred W. Agee today and ho glibly said: "I'll plead guilty to petty larceny. I understand the typewriter wasn't worth more than $25." Pie had stolen a typewriter and wan i trying to peddle it when Detective J Robert Chambers captured him "with 4 the goods." " Tho prisoner seemed confident of his ability as his own lawyer, in making mak-ing this plea. Judge Agee replied: "You are charged charg-ed with burglary. You evidently don't understand the situation. If you plead guilty the court will sentence you to from one to twenty years in the pcnl- '. tentlary." On his own motion the judge then i postponed the hearing two days and I appointed Attorney Samuel C. Powell to defend the self-confessed thief. |
