Show oo CONSIDER MEANS TO AVOID ELECTROLYSIS. Salt Lake, June 24. Accompanied by H. L. Beath, manager of the Utah Light & Traction company, Commissioner Commis-sioner W. H. Shearman of the waterworks water-works department, Superintendent C. F. Barrett and Assistant Superintendent Superin-tendent Allan MacQuarrie made test3 as to damage being done to tho water mains in the vicinity of Highland drive from electrolysis t Commissioner Shearman said that a - i test of a fire hydrant showed it as be- ! ing charged with from 5 to 11 volts o i electrical flow and that of a water main showed from five to eight volts, f This, ho says, is sufficient to wort serious injury to the pipes, and offers a probable explanation of numerous ' breaks in the mains of the 'Highland drive neighborhood of late. An overhead system of return for electrical waste is being planned by the light and traction company, the c improvement to cost from $10,000 to l $20,000. This, says .Commissioner Shearman, may eliminate the trouble entirely by affording to the leaking C , electric force an easier way of escape than by means of the water pipes. Elimination of the leakage through the water pipes is absolutely essen- D tial to their protection c |
