I One of the most enjoyable and prettily pret-tily arranged affairs of the season took place Thursday evening, June 22, hen the Misses Ellen Shaughnessy and Olga Lindstrom gave a china Ehower at the home of the former, in honor of Miss Margaret Gould of r Boise, whose marriage to Mr. Gran-, Gran-, , Tille Glvens Is to take place in the h j Bear future. & Early in the evening two mysterious j colored gentlemen appeared at the ; front door and when answered by the ) 4 guest of honor proceeded in with a i ' fiiall express wagon laden with dain- j ly parcels, surmounted by a bag. The bride-to-be was the recipient : c! manj- beautiful and useful gifts. After an evening of humorous game and music a delicious luncheon wai served by Mrs. Shaughnessy and Mrs. Lindstrom. In the cutting of the mysterious mys-terious cake the bride-to-be received the wedding riug. The table decorations were unique. In the center of the table was a large basket of red roses and white carnations, carna-tions, surmounted by two kewplo dolls, from whose hands extended red ribbons to each place ending in tiny rose favors filed with salted nuts. The hand-painted place cards were of a heart shape bearing the full name of the parties. Red hearts and arrows ar-rows were strewn over the table. The Civic League met with the president, Mrs. Philip Warren Knisely, 2513 Adams avenue, last Wednesday, June 21, at 3 o'clock. New officers elected were Mrs. J. W. Wintle, recording re-cording secretary, and Mrs. George W. Perkins, corresponding secretary. Other officers of the league are Mrs. Edward Bichsel, first vice president; Mrs. J. T. Lynch, second vice president; presi-dent; Mrs. R. B. Porter, auditor, and Mrs. S. S. Smith, treasurer. The most important business of the meeting was the reading of a report on the children's activities in garden work, by special garden teacher, J. J. Andrews. An inspection committee to visit the flower and vegetable gardens throughout the city was appointed as follows: Mrs. Thomas D. Dee, Mrs. Joseph Barker, Mrs. S. H. Hender-shot, Hender-shot, Mrs. David Jensen and Mrs. Edward Ed-ward T. Bichsel. The ladies will begin be-gin inspection immediately. Mrs. John Culley and -Mrs. George W. Perkins form a committee of two and their inspection of lawns, porch boxes, basket and vacant lot gardening garden-ing will also begin at once. The next meeting of the league will be held July 12, with Mrs. Knisely and will open at 9:30 a. m. ON EXTENDED AUTO TRIP. Mrs. Harrj- Shearman, wife of Commissioner Com-missioner Shearman of Salt Lake City, and, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred J. Klesel of Ogden and Mr&, A. P. Blge-low Blge-low are enjoying an auto trip which will include all of the principal cities of the Pacific coast. They left Ogden the first part of the week and are now in Sacramento where they are the guest of Mrs. Shearman's brother, Fred W. Klesel for a few days. They will then go to the Santa Cruz mountains moun-tains and after motoring up the coast to Seattle Mrs Shearman and Mrs. BIgelow will take a steamer to Alaska returning to Seattle by way of Glacier Gla-cier National park through Montana and Idaho. Mrs. William Roper of Council Bluffs Iowa, is visiting in Ogden at the home of her sister, Mrs. "William F. Rudiger. She will remain here all summer. PLEASANTLY SURPRISED. Tuesday, June 19, about fifteen members of the local O. E. S. surprised sur-prised Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Gerding at their home on Hudson avenue and Twenty-third street, the event celebrating cele-brating tho golden anniversary of Mr. and MrB. Gerding. The ladies of the Eastern Star presonted Mrs. Gerding with a beautiful Eastern Star pin and Mr. Gerding was the recipient of a Masonic pin. Mr and Mrs. Gerding were married in Mount Vernon, Indiana, Indi-ana, June 19, 1866. 1916 FIVE HUNDRED CLUB. The 1916 Five Hundred club held a pleasant meeting with Mrs. Preece, S74 Canyon Road last Wednesday. The usual games wei'e enjoyed and delicious deli-cious dainties were served. MRS. Miss Erma Moore, popular member of Ogden's social set, has returned home after a pleasant six-weeks visit in Minneapolis and St. Paul. FOR TINY MISS ELIZABETH POLK. Among the many social events of the week was the pretiy affair given by Mrs. .E. H. Polk, 644 Twenty-sev. enth street, for her four year old daughter, Elizabeth. In keeping with the present excitement over the prospect pros-pect of war, the color scheme was carried out in red, white and blue, i In the dining room, running lengthwise length-wise on the tablecloth, were strips of blue and red crepe paper, while in a large bowl in the center were little dolls dressed in red, white and blue, from which streamers of the saame colors extended to each guest's place-card, of similar patriotic design. On the plates of ice cream, little flags, which were afterward pinned on each happy youngster, waved in state. Thomas, Miss Virginia Thomas and Miss Marguerite Budlong. PETERSON-GRAHAM WEDDING AND RECEPTION. Wednesday, June 21, Miss Ollie May Peterson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Adam I.k Peterson and Mr. J. Pierce Graham were married in the Salt Lake temple. The couple have many e friends in Ogden and Eden where they will make their future home. Many delightful events were given for the bride during the past few weekB. , Yesterday evening the bride and groom were tendered a wedding reception recep-tion at the home of the bride's parents par-ents in Eden about 150 guests being invited. Musical selections, both vocal vo-cal and Instrumental were enjoyed and a sumptuouB wedding supper was nicely served. In the evening a dancing dan-cing party was given in honor of the young couple, in the Eden amusement hall. Mr. and Mrs. Graham will make their home in Eden. L. A. TO VETERAN FIREMEN The ladles' auxiliary to the Veteran Firemen entertained at a card party In the W. O. W. hall last Thursday, June 22, at S o'clock when a large number of the Veterans with their wives were present. The event was a social success. FOR BRIDE OF WEEK. Last Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Parley J. Carver entertained atva luncheon in compliment to Miss Ireta Chambers, a bride of the week. ELABORATE WEDDING RECEPTION. RECEP-TION. Following the marriage of Miss Ireta Holroyd Chambers and Mr. Lawrence Evans last Thursday morning morn-ing in the Salt Lake temple, a beautiful beauti-ful appointed wedding reception was tendered them at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alma D. Chambers, 887 Twenty-third street between the hours of 8 and 11 o'clock. Tho groom is the son of President and Mrs. Thomas B. Evans. The wedding wed-ding ceremony In the temple was performed, per-formed, by Apostle Joseph F. Smith, Jr. During the receiving hours several hundred guests called at tho Chambers' Cham-bers' home which was prettily decorated deco-rated for tho occasion. The reception recep-tion room was lovely with sprays of smilax while In the parlor a nuptial bower was arranged of climbing roses, 3mllax and maidenhair fern. Vanes of red and pink roses and peonies were artistically placed throughout the room. In tho library where the Nylander string quartet played a fine program during the evening, exquisite bouquets o roses and peonies were placed. In the drawing room a bell of white chiffon and ferns was suspended sus-pended directly over the center table on which was placed a jardiniere of roses. Vases of roses and peonies were aranged on the buffet and smaller smal-ler tables. During the evening delicious refreshments re-freshments were served by MrB. S II. "Winter ably assisted by the Misses Genevieve Wallace, Pearl Wardleigh, Stella Clark and Edna Kohn. The menu consisted of sandwiches, olives, ice cream and cake, after dinner minto and wintergreens. Punch was served in the hallway in a prettily decorated booth by the Misses Ada Baker and Ruth Evans. Tho young ladiei were daintily dressed in yellow and green dresses, respectively. The bride, an exceptionally attractive attrac-tive joung lady, was prettiljr gowned In cream taffeta with real lace trimming trim-ming and carried a lovely bouquet of white bride's roses. She was attended by Miss Verna Farr as bridesmaid. She was attractively gowned and carried car-ried a shower bouquet of roses. Mr. Evans was attended by Raymond Reeder as best man. In a special room upstairs the gifts which were numerous and varied were on display. Before the guests departed the bride tossed her bouquet. She stood on the porch and tossed her roses among the crowd of young Indies on the lawn. Miss Verna Farr, bride's maid was the lucky recipient. Mr. and Mrs. Evans departed for Salt Lake on a late train and will spend their honeymoon in that city until July 15 when they will return to Ogden to make their home at 2347 . a Endion avenue. Miss Alta Rawson, who leaves on a mission for the Mormon church, June 27, was tendered a miscellaneous shower at tho home of Mrs. Wilford Rawson, 1236 Chester street, last Thursday evening. Miss Rawson will perform mission work in Chicago. The Rawson home was prettily decorated de-corated for the occasion with pink and white roses and carnations. U. held a delightful de-lightful dime and dues social at the home of Mrs. W. S. Flewelllng last Wednesday, June 21, when a pleasant program of musical and literary numbers num-bers was carried out after which refreshments re-freshments was served. A feature of the entertainment was the- guessing contest In which all members of the union participated. Among those present pres-ent were many ladies from other unions un-ions of the W. C. T. U. of the city Mrs. A. M. McCIure delighted those present with a pleasing vocal solo and Miss Nellie Duusmore gave -a piano selection. TIPPERARY CLUB. Miss Grace Crites was hostess to tho members of the Tipperary club on Wednesday afternoon at her home on Monroe avenue. The usual games of five hundred were played, honors going to Mrs. Vogel, Mrs. Pecken-paugh Pecken-paugh and Miss McDonald. At 5 o'clock a delicious supper was served by the hostess. HOME CULTURE CLUB PICNIC. Owing to the chilly day, the Home Culture club held its annual picnic in the parlors of the Congregational church last Thursday instead of at the Lagoon resort as planned. The church parlors proved a delightful place to spend the afternoon and following fol-lowing the social hour, several business busi-ness matters of importance were disposed dis-posed of. Promptly at 6 o'clock, forty guests and members of the club were seated at the long tables where the picnic lunch, which proved to bo a near banquet, was served. The tables ta-bles were laden with all the delicacies of the season and tbtase present did an pie justice to the tempting lunch. The tables were prettily decorated with California popples, Columbines and pansies. The affair proved a fitting fit-ting close to the club meetings for the year. CRADLE ROLL. The Cradle Roll of the Presbyterian Sunday school will give a tea and social so-cial for the mothers and an entertainment entertain-ment for the babes Tuesday afternoon, at 3:30, In the church parlors. The marriage of Miss Caroline G-ene-vieve Hopkins ani Mr. Charles Henry Wilson, Wednesday, June 14, at Malad City, Idaho, is of especial interest to their Ogden friends, as the couple will make their future home in this city at 2753 Washington avenue, after July 1st. The 19IG Birthday club pleasantly surprised Mrs. Varney last Wednesday Wednes-day in honor of that lady's birthday. Mrs. Varney was the recipient of a beautiful and choice piece of cut-glass as a token of the esteem In which she is held by the club members. After a delightful evening at cards, at which the Mesdames Nina Watson, Dora and Smalley were given honors, a delicious supper was served, covers being placed for fourteen guests.
