Show Wonderful Ability of Coming Circus 'Rider Even the charmed circle of the saw dust ring has its social crust. There is not much exclusiveness, to be sure, among the sturdies who drive stakes and otherwise perform the laborious work attendant with the pitching of the tents of a big circus, but once you get into the inner circle of the performors who entertain in the "big top," there is plenty of "sassiety." The circus has Its "smart set," and to find the real leaders of the tent show "400," one need go no farther than the bareback and fancy high school horse riders. The over friendly friend-ly rivalry that exists between the various entertainers in the main tent may not be noticeable to the visiting public, but to those familiar with the doings on the "inside," it is always conspicuous. Riders, acrobats, wire-walkers wire-walkers trapeze artists, equilibrists and others of the "big top" brigade are constantly zealously and Jealously preserving the traditions of the "saw-dust "saw-dust ring" and seeking to build up reputation and prestige in their ro spective line of profession endeavor; a most commendable ambition and effort, ef-fort, by the way, for in no other way could the circus artist possibly expect ex-pect to advance in his or her own particular specialty. If there is any particular depart ment of tented amusement wherein the evolution of time has not wrought any very marked changes, it is proba, bly in the art of the bareback rider and the menage act equestrienne. As yet nothing seems to have been conceived by the brains of either manager man-ager or artist that has served to supplant sup-plant the bareback rider, nor the high school horse equestrienne either, for that matter. They are the real society of tho "white tops." Socially, at least, they appear to reign supreme in the dressing tent where none of the other many spcialties of a circus program have ever yet been able to successfully dispute their sovereignity. The accom-pllshed accom-pllshed bareback performer and tho manage expert constitute the real aris. In the very front rank of the Robinson Rob-inson Circus riding stars is Miss Mary Conners, an export and versatile artist and best known as the bareback riding rid-ing queen of the Robinson arena and , incidentally vone of the most beautl- ful women in her line today. Versa tile? Yes, because the young lady not ,' only has reached the top rung of the ladder of fame as a bareback riding ! expert, but she is equally at home and quite as skillful and graceful with a i spirited high school horse for a mount, , Miss Conners' performances in L0 f gan on Fridaj', July 7, with the John J Robinson Shows, will quite clearly bear out this contention. She will I make her usual quick change of mount from a menage horse act to her bare- ' back specialty, at the same time mnk. .' ing a necessarily complete change of wardrobo. ' |
