Advocates of concrete claim that form of paving is better than concrete con-crete with, an asphalt top, as a hard surface Is ideal for traction purposes. William F. Long, who Is here representing repre-senting the American Portland Cement Ce-ment manufacturers association, is urging the construction of a concrete highway in order to demonstrate the efficiency of that form of paving. He says South Washington avenue, from tho end of the asphalt to the city boundnry, should bo concreted fce-. cause of the economy to be derived. He maintains that a concrete road can be kept up at an expense of $30 per mile per year, while macadam costs many times that sum. nn |
