Show H REGULATING THE POWER H, Complaint has, been made that the H recent., flood in Ogden was in part H due to the opening of the gates of the H power dam in Ogden canyon at a time H when th& river was rapidly rising. C. H iA. Porter, in charge. of the dam, de- H ales this- report, declaring, there were H negates to open, but that at 2:30 p. H uk Monday, March 20, he removed H twosplash. boards. At that time the H water dn the reservoir was 4 feet be- Hi low- the top of the dam. H This denial-releases the power com- H pany from responsibility, but, while H this subject is up, would it not be H well to have the opening and closing H o the dam, during dangerous storm HJ periods, reviewed and perhaps placed H -under the control of not only the pow- H I er company but also a representative H of the people, of Ogd.en, say the H mayor, or some other high, authority, H so that residents along the path of a H .-prospective flood might be warned or H ibe kept Informed of the possibility H of releasing a great body of water? H Those'in charge of the dam are best H qualified to determine how much i strain the structure can withstand and H when the water pressure should be re- H duced, but, on the other hand, the H people in Ogden, in a danger period, H are entitled to know when an extra H volume of water is to be released to H swell the flood in Ogden river. That H is a precautionary measure which H. -should not be overlooked. |
