Show CONCRETE BRIDGE OF URGE SIZE IS TO BE BUILT Contract for bridging Burch Creek la order to permit th- extension of Washington avenue south from Fortieth For-tieth street to Seventy-first street, through the Country club district and 'Vashingtou Heights, the 1200-acre restricted re-stricted residence park, was awarded today by the Federal Land & Mortgage Mort-gage Co, to the J P. O'Neill Con itruction company. Work will start lir. mediately. The concrete culvert which the O'Neill company will construct will be 450 feet in length and five and onp-ball onp-ball feet in diameter. It will be buried beneath a huge fill containing 80,000 cubic yards of earth and the total cost of construction will exceed ex-ceed $30,000. The difficulty of crossing Burch Creel at this point has been responsible respon-sible for the beautiful large tract between be-tween the creek and the Weber river, which is all now known as Washington Washing-ton Heights, remaining unoccupied for so long a time, but when the Federal Land t Mortgage Co., recently pur-cbasfd pur-cbasfd the tract, it was determined to convey the waters of Burch Creek underground at this point, making the big fill in order to establish a uniform grade for Washington avenue. Large gradiug forces alread yare at work on the tract, pushing the grading work on Washington avenue j and other streets in Washington Heights to the limit as the company has contracted to have the additional thirty-one blocks of Washington all graded, the street paved and parked for its full width witlun a year. Large construction forces are also busily at work niacin the grounds and golf links of the new Golf and Country club fn proper condition and plans aro being drawn for the new-club new-club house in order that it may be erected in the spring The only difficulty dif-ficulty at present Is the bad condition of the street from Thirty sixth to Fortieth This is a stretch of county road which can be put in good condition con-dition with only a small expenditure and it is expected that the county commissioners will order this improvement im-provement made at a. ver) early date in order that the extensive Improvements Improve-ments bnlng In that region may not be retarded. The bridging of Burch Creek and the fill, while representing a huge task will be only a small part of the improvements to be made this winter and next spriug, as the company ex-I ex-I pects at least a quarter of a million dollars will be expended before the improvements are all made. |
