Ad j vices from most of the important l commercial centers indicate a trend i toward better conditions Bank clear-I clear-I ings and railroad gross earnings, however, how-ever, still show heavy decreases as compared with last year, the reduction reduc-tion in the latter in the first two weeks of November amounting to 12.1 per cent. In the iron and steel trade, while the output remains much below be-low capacity, there is, nevertheless, evidence of an improving domestic demand in addition to larger foreign orders. Rapid progress is being made' in the restoration of export trade." War orders are beginning to stir up many lines of business and the restoration of the export trade ib reopening re-opening many mills. Soon the effects of the regional banks will be felt and by spring this country should be in a fairly prosperous prosper-ous condition. |
