Show LAWHORN IS CONVICTED. Provo, Utah. April 8. Moan Law-horn Law-horn was tried today before City Jus-tico Jus-tico C. D. Glazier on a complaint charging him with giving a drink of whisky to Alvin Thurgood on April 5, tho said giving "not being a gift in case of injury to anyone, nor in case of emergency for medical purposes" pur-poses" The Jury brought in a verdict of guilty with a recommondation to mercy, mer-cy, n fine of 375 and sixty days' imprisonment im-prisonment in the city jail was the penalty imposed. The testimony of the prosecuting witness was that Law-horn Law-horn had given him a drink from a bottle. This was denied by Lawhorn. Thurgood testified that he was un-conscious un-conscious for several hours following the taking of the drink, and that he belioved the whisky was "doped." An amusing feature of the case was the testimony of Lawhorn that the money with which ho had purchased pur-chased the whisky had been given him by City Commissioner LeRoy Dixon Dix-on and Chief of Police W. F. Giles for the purchase of -whisky fror,- illicit venders. This was corroborated by Commissioner Dixon. -. nr |
